PTS 51 + Wargaming Terrain Made Easy

Game on!
Painting Table Saturday is now officially over-the-hill at 51. To celebrate, here is some wargaming terrain I made this week. Suitable for Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, or any tabletop game involving miniatures really. Thanks goes to +Chaos Convergence for inspiring me with his latest terrain creations.

I kept this really simple. Ordinary packing polystyrene, ancient CDs, acrylic paint. Sand came from the local sandpit. The flock and tree you can get from any good hobby store. However, I picked these up in an amazing online auction last year. It was a lot of fun to make and I'm very happy with the results.

Polystyrene rough cut with a bread knife.

Bic lighter used for further shaping, then glued to CDs with Araldite.

My five year old painting expert.

With clothing protector.

Grey undercoat complete.

Outcrop with tree, plus a Cairn.

Carefully designed lid.

Drybrushed with grey/white and sand applied to bases.

Flocked.

I'm still putting some finishing touches on the Cairn, which is hollow. I'm certainly going to make some more terrain like this.

God bless you and have a great weekend!

PTS 50 + Orc Warlord Grunash + Wargaming Terrain

Forever Young.
Painting Table Saturday turns 50! Something old, something new. My wife and I celebrated 15 years of marriage this week, so there was really no time for painting.

Here is the mighty Orc Warlord, Grunash. He's featured in my D&D Blackhawk campaign and is a rather large fellow, converted from a 40k Black Ork which I bought with missing arms. It was an online auction purchase and I didn't realise it wasn't ordinary orc-size until it arrived in the mail. I have photos of the conversion and will post them when/if I find them. See if you can guess what he's made of.

Otherwise, there has been a quick flick of the brush on a handful of miniatures on the painting table. A couple of pre-slotta base Citadel Chaos Warriors are almost finished and my herd of beastmen is growing.

Inspired by +Chaos Convergence there is also some terrain construction going on. I hope to have some complete by next week.

Star Wars X-Wing + Empire Strikes Back

Monday night, Game Night. Last week, not so long ago in a galaxy not far from this one, the Rebel scum were destroyed by the Empire. This time round, I played the Empire and Dave piloted the Rebel spaceships.

Here is our first X-Wing Miniatures using the Advanced rules. More tokens, more options, more awesome!

The Tie-Fighters proved to be a force to be reckoned with, coming out of Stress maneuvers with relative ease and using Focus Tokens to good effect in evasive actions. Even Dave's Ion Cannon was unable to deter them as they deftly ran rings around the Rebel fighters.

Dave improved the table mat with spots of paint flicked from a toothbrush for a suitably epic space arena. It was a longer game than last week, although the extra rules on targeting, etc. were easy to grasp and made for an enjoyable evening's entertainment.

We also came up with a subtle way to show space-explosions, using damage cards.

Not enough impact.

That's better!

PTS 49 + Citadel Beastmen + Painted Shields

Painting Table Saturday! Some mighty classic Citadel beastmen this week as well as a guest painter from Orkland. The Broo were also a fine opportunity to paint some more shields. Something I enjoy because it adds a personal touch to the miniature, making it unique.

Based and ready for painting.

Braying, horned broo are gathering.

A fine collection young man!

Ella's witch and Flying Unicorn!

God bless you and have a great week.
