Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game

A gift from Rob.
As the rain falls outside as part of an oncoming storm, I am reminded of another night. A night when three (or was it four?) men gathered to roll dice and swap stories, as the forces of Man and Orc clashed on the table top. Shields were splintered.

I guess this game owes much to a gift from Rob. His generous donation of several boxes of Lord of the Rings miniatures to the Tamahere Officers Club could not go without a game in Rob's honour.

I recall that the rules were slightly adjusted to speed up play. An Elven arrow would slay an Orc for example, no armour save required. Movement was also simplified.

Despite a veritable swarm of Orcs and Wargs, the forces of Men, Elves and Dwarves triumphed. In fact, the Dwarves never looked to be under threat at all. I expect their bards will sing a different tale though!

Riders of Rohan. Ride on!

Wargs advance!

Elves skulk in the woods.

It's a trap! Orcs leap from hiding holes.

Flanking. Elven archers prove deadly.

Assault on the Dwarven Fortress.

More Orcs erupt from the earth.

The Orcs multiply in number.

The Grey Company holds the line.

Brave riders of the West March.

Casualties top right. Mainly Orcs!

God bless you and have a happy new year!
