A gift from Rob. |
As the rain falls outside as part of an oncoming storm, I am reminded of another night. A night when three (or was it four?) men gathered to roll dice and swap stories, as the forces of Man and Orc clashed on the table top. Shields were splintered.
I guess this game owes much to a gift from Rob. His generous donation of several boxes of Lord of the Rings miniatures to the Tamahere Officers Club could not go without a game in Rob's honour.
I recall that the rules were slightly adjusted to speed up play. An Elven arrow would slay an Orc for example, no armour save required. Movement was also simplified.
Despite a veritable swarm of Orcs and Wargs, the forces of Men, Elves and Dwarves triumphed. In fact, the Dwarves never looked to be under threat at all. I expect their bards will sing a different tale though!
Riders of Rohan. Ride on! |
Wargs advance! |
Elves skulk in the woods. |
It's a trap! Orcs leap from hiding holes. |
Flanking. Elven archers prove deadly. |
Assault on the Dwarven Fortress. |
More Orcs erupt from the earth. |
The Orcs multiply in number. |
The Grey Company holds the line. |
Brave riders of the West March. |
Casualties top right. Mainly Orcs! |
